Objectives
The project "Free bleeding" wants to improve the availability of menstrual products for young women in schools. It is one of the projects that were selected from a participatory process in which children and young people decided upon projects to be funded. The "free bleeding" project helps to reduce menstruation-related costs for female students in Vienna. In nine schools, machines were installed that provide free menstrual products.
Implementation
The project coordinators wanted to learn more about the target group's acceptance of the project and about beneficial and impedimental factors in the implementation process. Relevant data (e. g. uptake rate, refilling rates) was analyzed and feedback (students, school staff) was collected. Site visits in selected schools, interviews with school principals and focus groups (pupils' representatives, school staff) were carried out. Experiences and good practices were identified and collected to support a successful roll-out of the project.
