Our working areas

 

Since 2004, we have been working on a great variety of topics. Not only do we have a very comprehensive view of these fields but we have also identified productive links between them. We have been able to build up functioning partnerships and networks focusing on our working areas. Together, we progress and make changes for the better.

We interpret accessibility in a broader sense – including not only the absence of barriers in built environments, but also the openness of spaces, organisations and social processes for as many persons as possible – of all ages, with and without disabilities. We firmly believe that the awareness of stakeholders (in politics, administration, organisations and companies) is a prerequisite for sustainable changes in this field.

Our projects on active ageing aim to give older and very old persons more and better chances to participate and contribute. We empower them to live as long as possible in their familiar environments – autonomously, healthy and safely. We not only contribute to the empowerment of older individuals, but also to the age-friendly design and organisation of social and built environments.

We work in health promotion in various roles – as supporters, researchers, evaluators and trainers. In each of these roles, we are guided by the principles of modern health promotion. Mindful of the resources available, we cooperate with all relevant stakeholders and multipliers, always for the benefit of the target group(s) at stake.

Since 2004, we have been working on the inclusion of men and women with disabilities. Our projects aim to improve accessibility of all areas of life – from education to the labour market – to enable persons with disabilities to live independent, safe and healthy lives. We try to work as inclusively as possible and do our research together with people with disabilities.

The participation and co-design of the (social) environment together with our target groups is highly relevant to our work on volunteering, political participation, health promotion and inclusion. All our work processes (development, implementation, research, evaluation) are designed to be as participative as possible in order to make relevant and sustainable changes to the status quo.

In our projects on security we want to find out about the framework conditions that make people feel safe in their environments. We carry out participative security research that makes visible the expectations, roles, perspectives and the co-production of security.

Meaningful and fulfilling voluntary work needs adequate framework conditions. We want to contribute to such conditions – providing voluntary work that fits the needs and competences of the volunteers. We specifically advocate self-determined participation in local voluntary initiatives.
