Fonds Gesundes Österreich, Bundesministerium für Arbeit, Soziales, Gesundheit, Pflege und Konsumentenschutz, Österreichischer Städtebund, The participating cities and the Netzwerk Gesunde Städte Österreich contribute financially to the project.
Objectives
Demographic change is leading to a growing number of older citizens. This presents cities with new challenges, requiring innovative solutions for many municipal tasks. At the same time, the municipal setting also offers many opportunities to facilitate healthy and independent aging for its residents and thus act as a preventative measure.
In the "We ALL" project of the Netzwerk Gesunde Städte Österreich (Healthy Cities Network Austria), the three Austrian pioneer cities of Vienna, Graz, and Leoben will complete or continue the entire "Age-Friendly Cities" process (as defined by the World Health Organization, WHO). Each of the cities is at a different point on the path to becoming an age-friendly city; Vienna has been a member of the WHO's network of cities since 2023. In addition, eight other cities (Bregenz, Innsbruck, Wörgl, Wels, Linz, Kapfenberg, St. Pölten, and Eisenstadt) will systematically address the promotion of healthy aging in the project.
The project is led by the Healthy Cities Network Austria and funded by the Fonds Gesundes Österreich, the Federal Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs, Health, Care and Consumer Protection (BMASGPK), and the Städtebund. queraum supports the cities in the project implementation.
Imlementation
We ALL will be implemented in four phases (Build, Understand, Orient, Take Action and Promote Age-Friendly Living, Reflect on Experiences) and pursues four strategic goals:
- The cities will be individually supported on their path to becoming healthy and age-friendly cities.
- Cross-city exchange will promote long-term mutual support and learning.
- The principles of healthy and age-friendly cities will be sustainably embedded.
- Capacity building in the cities will be supported.
We ALL also focuses on transferring project experiences and results to other communities and cities. In addition to several exchange formats, various project products (e.g. a knowledge platform, publications) are planned.
